This years third annual Bowcast At The Bird brought very unique conditions [...]]]> July 8,9, & 10 hundreds of archers and bowhunters alike moved in on the slopes of Snowbird Ski and summer resort.  As the archers moved in on the skiers paradise it was clear that snow or no snow, these dedicated archers had arrived.

This years third annual Bowcast At The Bird brought very unique conditions to the 3D shoot.  With 30 year record breaking snow fall FMP’s Shawn Monsen & Anthony Dixon set out to use what mother nature had thrown at them.  Setting the 70 Mckenzie targets on the 144” of snow, they created five courses consisting the FMP-MDF course, Elite course, Intermediate course (18 targets), kids course, and this years competitive course the Hoyt-G3 outfitter course.

As the archer’s rode the Snowbird tram to 11,000’ the mountain’s quickly revealed the upper two courses.  Along with the majestic views these archers where going to take part in this years unique setting.  Starting at 11,000’ we wanted to set archers up in circumstances that would test and teach archers what they can do in the right circumstances.  The FMP-MDF course and the Elite course took most archers a total of four hours to shoot themselves back down to base camp.  Testing not only an archers skill but also his body.

Starting from the Snowbird Plaza, archers where also able to quickly get themselves to 1 of three courses.  The kids course, the Intermediate course and the Hoyt-G3 Outfitter competitive course.  The kids course this year had a unique competitive feel to it this year if parent/child wanted they could enter themselves into the competition to win the Trophies West parent child antelope hunt in Montana.  Next is the 18 target intermediate course that was set and designed by brothers Greg and Brian Robbins, they quickly took Shawn and Anthony’s challenge and mindset to not only challenge the body but the mind on what some thought was an intermediate course.

Continuing with the tradition of the shoot and FMP’s Shawn and Anthony’s extreme mentality the Hoyt and G3 outfitters competitive course was laid out to again mentally and physically challenge the shooter.  Oh ya and in hopes you come back with 0 arrows.  With over 60 entrants willing to take the challenge, groups of 4 hopped on one of two side by side Bobcats to get them to the beginning of the course.  As archers licked their wounds back down to the Snowbird Plaza they anxiously watched the board to see how scores where coming in.  With a unique BATB and Hoyt trophy and G3 outfitter spot n stalk bear hunt on the line the competition level grew as the weekend went on.

Hoyt Shooters Kevin Wilke and Kyle Keele again put Hoyt bows on the leader board.  Both putting up scores of a 80 and 75 with no zero’s.  Kevin calling out his score he moved through the course with the confidence it took to get his high score.  I am sure the confidence he had in his equipment added to his level of confidence his Hoyt Carbon Element, Fuse carbon blades his CBE sight and his Easton ACC’s prove to still be a winning factor for his set ups.  Kyle coming in to shoot at the end and barely making it in to the competition see’s what he is up against does not hesitate or even drop an arrow.  He pulls out a score of 75 that gives him a respectable 2nd place to a gold medal winner.  Also putting Hoyt on the top two podium positions.  Kyle cleaned up with his Hoyt Vulcan, CBE single pin sight and Scott little bitty goose.  Congrats to Kevin on his first place win and grabbing that great Spot N. Stalk Bear hunt with G3 outfitters.

Also adding to the competitive nature of the shoot, Alberta River Valley lodge threw in a 10 day whitetail hunt.  Archers had to shoot the Easton Iron Maiden to qualify and get into the drawing, out of the 100+ entrants 21 made it into the drawing and once again Hoyt shooter Todd Griffith walks with the Prize.

Instead of MidGad, the main gathering area will be at the Snowbird Center, head to the Skiers Bridge, Entry 2.
